While the Fancy Footwork feature eliminates attacks of opportunity, meaning the player can move, then Action Surge to attack their next target without fear of taking damage from movement. Pairing this with any rogue will give the player multiple chances to land Sneak Attack however, Swashbuckler works well here as Rakish Audacity means that the player doesn't need advantage to trigger Sneak Attack so long as only their target is within five feet of them. Related: D&D: Best Items And Spells To Boost StealthĭnD players can further increase their damage output but taking five levels of fighter to gain an extra attack per round, with Battlemaster being a great choice for a martial archetype for the Maneuvers such as Ambush, Parry, and Riposte. The Two-Weapon Fighting style works well here as it allows the player to add their ability modifier to their off-hand attacks or Dueling to give a +2 bonus to damage. By taking just one level of fighter, players will have access to Fighting Style, Second Wind, and Action Surge before continuing to level up their Swashbuckler rogue. The Swashbuckling Fighter is another DnD multiclass option for players looking to avoid spellcasters. However, if the player or DM does not allow or want firearms in their game, then the Crossbow Expert is also a great choice as it also lets the player ignore the loading property of the crossbow, cancels disadvantage against targets within five feet, and also lets the player attack with a hand crossbow as a bonus action if they use their action to attack with a one-handed weapon. The Gunner feat gives the character proficiency with firearms, allows them to ignore the loading property of them, and being within five feet of a target does not impose disadvantage on ranged attacks against them. However, the Scout can be turned into a deadly sniper by taking one of two feats. This works well with the level nine feature Superior Mobility which increases the player's movement speed by 10 feet, meaning that the Scout can quickly reposition on the battlefield without worrying about taking too many hits. At third level, the Scout is able to move half their movement speed as a reaction without provoking an attack of opportunity if an enemy ends its turn within five feet of them. More adaptable to situations than a ranger or arcane archer DnD build, the Scout mixes the stealth of a rogue with great features to make awesome ambushers. The Scout is one of the most fun rogue subclasses for players who love to play ranged characters. To further up the damage, the Assassin Barbarian can take the Great Weapon Master feat to make an additional weapon attack as a bonus action and give a further +10 to damage. By surprising their enemies, the player now crits on any attack that hits, which, when combined with the level nine barbarian feature Brutal Critical can deal out three times the regular amount of damage. This is all thanks to a feature of the Assassin rogue subclass called Assassinate because while Sneak Attack requires the player to be using either a finesse or ranged weapon, Assassinate provides a neat workaround to that.Īssassinate allows the DnD player to give themselves advantage on attack rolls against any target who hasn't taken their turn in combat yet. By adding just three levels of rogue to any barbarian, players can turn their character into a damage-dealing machine capable of using a great axe to devastate in the first round of combat. The Assassin Barbarian is a fun multiclass option for DnD players looking to deal damage while tanking.
